Steeling themselves against the unstable ebbs and swells of absence, two dancers contemplate corporeal parallax, nautical expanse, and stifled desires. Supported seamlessly with a haunting score by Jherek Bischoff, By Guess & By God pairs formal and detached physical movement with intimate, imagistic gestures to create an unusual hollowness that expands throughout the piece, allowing the feeling of melancholy, longing, and endurance to seep slowly into one’s consciousness.
