About us
BEAU GESTE has its origins in a collective founded in 1981 by seven dancers from the National Centre for Contemporary Dance, which was directed at the time by the American choreographer Alwin Nikolaïs. In 1991, the company was restructured and Dominique Boivin, an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters, took over as artistic director.
The company specialises in bespoke choreography, exploring what is unique and distinctive in each performer, regardless of their technique, style or physical characteristics. It also delves into the diversity of the artistic world, venturing into opera, street performance, and performances under a big top, in a swimming pool or in gardens. Beau Geste creates works that bring together the unusual, a sense of detachment and humour. Due to the number of performances, both nationally and internationally, some productions have become emblematic of Beau Geste’s style: *Mécaniques*, an educational show; *La Danse, une histoire à ma façon*; and, in particular, *Transports Exceptionnels*, which has been performed in over 60 countries.
